The Inspector-General of the National Schools Inspectorate Authority, Dr Haggar Hilda Ampadu has indicated that schools found in violation of Covid-19 safety protocols will be summarily shut down.
The organization, she said, will embark on several monitoring and evaluation exercises across the country to ensure that all the safety protocols are complied with.
“If you are a school and you are not going by the protocols and exposing our children unnecessarily we will let you shut down.
“We have to ensure there is the safety of our learners and that is our key goal. So if we come to the school and we inspect the protocols and we find out that your handwashing system does not exist, your sanitiser system does not exist, social distancing system does not exist then you have no business in running a school at this point,” she stated emphatically.
In an interview with JoyNews’ Mamavi Owusu Aboagye, Dr Ampadu added that the sanction directed at both private schools and public schools.
Her comment follows the resumption of schools on Monday at a time when the country has recorded a surge in active Covid-19 cases.
Dr Haggar Hilda Ampadu, however, stated that the Ghana Education Service (GES) has proposed an initiative to School-Heads who cannot conform to the social distance protocols in the classroom.
She hinted that in those instances, a shift system will be run with smaller class size.
“If you can not sit children in a social distance recommended metres then you should run a shift system so one batch will come in the morning for 5 hours and the other batch will come in the afternoon.”
She also encouraged citizens to draw the attention of the National Schools Inspectorate Authority and report schools who disregard Covid-19 protocols.
