There is heightened security in the Northern Region town of Bimbilla to maintain peace in the area after a faction in the chieftaincy dispute rejected a ruling by the Supreme Court.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive of the area, Abdulai Yaqoue, told Joy News’ Tamale correspondent, Martina Bugri, the Naa Salifu Dawuni family has been cautioned to respect the decision by the highest court.

He said steps have also been taken to increase security presence in the area.

The security arrangement follows a decision by the Naa Salifu Dawuni family to reject a ruling by the Supreme Court which named the Dasani Andani family as the rightful heir to the Bimbilla throne.

Last Wednesday’s ruling was the third by institutions of state on the matter and all have gone in favour of the Dasani family.

The Highest Court insisted the claim by the Naa Salifu Dawuni family is without basis and declared the rival family as the rightful heir.

But the spokesperson for the Naa Salifu Dawuni family Chief Bolahi Abu Hassan told Joy News the judges were wrong with the judgment given.

Peace ambassadors, security personnel have been on alert as a result of the decision by the Naa Salifu Dawuni family to reject the ruling.

Bimbilla has for over a decade become a harbinger of chieftaincy violence with many deaths and destruction of properties running into several millions of cedis.

It was expected that the verdict by the Supreme Court will bring finality to the conflict and help bring peace to the area.

Metropolitan Chief Executive of the area, Abdulai Yaqoue, said the security is on the alert in the area.

He said the aggrieved family has been cautioned to know that “this is a decision of the apex court of the republic and no one has the right to disobey them.”

“We have intensified the security in the area because I am told they have posted red flags and written a notice on the walls of one of the buildings,” he stated.
