Independent Member of Parliament for Nkawkaw Constituency in the Eastern Region, Mr. Seth Adjei Baah also known as Shaaba and 5 others have picked nomination forms to contest the NPP Parliamentary primary.
Mr. Adjei Baah won the seat in the 2008 election as an independent Parliamentary candidate but now wants to contest on the NPP ticket.
The others are the former Member of Parliament for the area, Kwabena Adusa Okerchiri, Joyce Opoku Boateng, Vida Agyekum, Eric Kwakye Darko aka ECOWAS and Yaw Owusu Addo, Director of Radio at Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
The Nkawkaw Constituency Secretary for the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Amoako Mensah, who confirmed the development to adomonline.com, said representatives of the MP had picked up and returned the fully endorsed form.
A date has not been fixed for the primary.
The Nkawkaw constituency is one of three constituencies where the NPP has not held primaries, ostensibly to allow the MPs, who are all independent but aligned to the NPP, to decide whether to go independent or contest within the party.
There had been calls from some party members for Shaaba to be disqualified because he contested against the NPP candidate in the 2008 elections when he lost the primary.
However, Constituency Secretary Amoako Mensah insists there is no acrimony, and the party would do all in its power to win the Nkawkaw seat in the December poll.
