A cross section of residents in the Sunyani Municipality, have hailed the nomination of Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo, former District Chief Executive for Sunyani as the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister designate. A random interview conducted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Tuesday in Sunyani saw most people describing Mr Marfo as someone bestowed with the ability and the potential to fast track the development of the region. Mr Collins Offinam Takyi-Adu, Administrator of ARB Apex Bank in Sunyani said the President’s nominee has a cordial relationship with people. “I like this man because he fears God and can also work with all sorts of persons,” he said. Mr Raphael Cubagee, Assembly Member for Abonsua Electoral Area, recalled Mr Marfo’s time as Sunyani DCE and said the regional hospital, the Municipal Assembly, street lights, school buildings and the Municipal main road were all constructed during his tenure. Mr Cubagee was optimistic that Mr Marfo would make agriculture his priority area and support the youth to engage in mushroom farming, snail production, grass cutter rearing, teak plantation and livestock rearing. He noted that the region, as the bread basket of the country, was currently witnessing massive de-forestation and expressed the hope that Mr Marfo would help reverse the trend. Mr Kofi Sammy, a carpenter, described Mr Marfo as capable and a competent leader, who would seek the welfare of the people and unite them irrespective of political inclination. Mr Andrews Kyeremeh, security officer of COCOBOD, sees Mr Marfo as a good man and expressed optimism that with his rich experience as a former Chief Executive, he would perform creditably. He said: “Even though I’m an NPP supporter, I would confess that the man is kind and listens to all manner of people. He has an excellent human relations character, as he relates nicely to both the young and the old”. Mr Joseph Kankamah, a farmer, stated that by virtue of his former position as DCE, Mr Marfo has the requisite experience to handle the job.
