Over the weekend, the people of Enyan Abasaa in the Central Region turned on the style during a football tournament put together by Talent Spot Masters in collaboration with UK-based Elite Group Agency.

The showcase tournament is part of plans by the agency to identify talent in Ghana.

At the end of the tournament, Abasaa’s SS Club emerged victorious in the final, beating Kesewaa Soccer Club on penalties.

Medals, individual prizes, and the opportunity to be watched by scouts were at stake for the players who took part in the tournament.

The representatives from Talent Spot Masters were impressed with the success of the tournament.

"We want to make sure that the communities we go to and organise these things benefit from it. I can say I am happy after the event," Country Director for Talent Spot Masters, Nana Andoh Asaam, told Joy Sports.

"The motive is to build excellence, and this time it's excellence in football. We want to help the youth with their physical activities, to encourage them until they can earn an income from the football they are playing."

In addition to the above comments, James Nketiah also advised against centralising the talent hunt.

"Everything has always been centralised, that is, it has always been in Accra. Seeing these young men play, it's something that we have to think about properly," he added.

"Talent is not only centralised in Accra, Kumasi areas. The best talents are also found outside these areas. Come outside, go to the villages, there are fine talents. It's unfortunate that plenty of these guys don't get discovered."

Players who picked up individual awards see the opportunity as a great leap in their careers.

Player of the tournament, Eric Baidoo, said, "It's a great motivation for me because I have never won this award in my career before.

"I want to thank the organisers for this opportunity for the young players to also showcase their talent."

The organisers also mentioned their plans to move to other parts of the country to unearth more talent.

"We are still thinking about the next location, but it should be an outskirt, a place where not many people know," Ekow Quansah, a member of the organising team, also added.

Six teams participated in the community tournament, which was played at the Enyan Abasaa Astro Turf.
