The Mayor of Tamale Abdul Hanan Gundadow has re-united with the paramount chief of Tamale Gukpe-Na Abdulai Alhassan after a brief standoff between them.

The reconciliation took place at a remembrance day to commemorate the fallen veterans of World War One and Two at the Veterans Village in Tamale.

 Last month the Tamale paramount chief threatened to lock-up the offices of the Mayor for refusing to grant permission to some traders to sell at the Tamale Kasajan company.

The paramount chief had allocated spaces at the market to the traders.

This resulted in a feud between the two leaders with the Gbewa Youth, a youth wing of the National Democratic Congress, in Tamale saying they will resist any attempt by the paramount chief of Tamale and the Nyakpala chief Naa-Yakubu to have the office of the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive locked up.

The wreath laying ceremony was attended by both the Gukpe-Naa and the Tamale Mayor.

 “You all witnessed that when the MCE came for the programme he sat with the paramount chief. This was an indication that the two have buried their differences. What happened the other time was just a correctional measure. Tamale needs development and if the two do not collaborate we cannot achieve that. So the chief has asked me to announce to all the veterans and the gathering that the two have reconciled”, Saha-na Abdul Latif said.

He described the misunderstanding between the Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive and the chief as unfortunate and something they never hope to happen again.

He also called on the youth of the metropolis to leave behind the past and co-operate with the mayor for development.

Northern Regional Minister Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna laid a wreath on behalf of the government and people of Ghana, while Garrison Commander Air Commodore Griffeth Santrofi Evans, laid one on behalf of the security services.

Welfare officer of the Northern Regional Veterans Association of Ghana, RTD col. Abdulai Braimah  also laid one on behalf of the veterans, while the paramount chief of Tamale laid one on behalf of traditional authorities.

Special prayers were said for the love, dedication and service soldiers rendered to the country during the colonial era and for peace and stability in Ghana and the world.

Relatives of the veterans, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives as well as other important dignities graced the occasion.

An impressive parade was mounted by detachments drawn from the Army, Navy, Air force, Police and veteran soldiers.

Welfare officer of the Northern Regional Veterans Association of Ghana, RTD Col. Abdulai Braimah told Joy News that children of the ex- soldiers with requisite qualification are always denied entry into the military and he wants that trend change.
