Foreigners trading in retail markets reserved for Ghanaians should from this morning start packing their wares.
This is because the National Inter -Agency Taskforce put together by the Trade Ministry to get rid of non- Ghanaians operating in these markets is expected to begin work later today.
This forms part of measures by government to safeguard the sector reserved for indigenes according to the country’s investments laws.
The taskforce is made up of officers from the Registrar General’s Department, the Ghana Investment Promotion Center, the Ghana Revenue Authority, Police, Immigration Service, Trade Ministry, Foreign Affairs Ministry as well as the Ghana Union Of Traders Association.
Chairman of the Taskforce, Kofi Larbi tells JOYBUSINESS he is optimistic of a successful exercise.
“We hope that the grace period would have served the purpose of making them willing remove themselves from the market. What we are saying is that , they can move and establish themselves outside the retail markets as those are reserved for Ghanaians” he noted.
