The Minister of Communication, Haruna Iddrisu has urged teachers in the country to demonstrate sense of patriotism as Ghana celebrates her 54th Independence Anniversary.
The Minister stated that teachers throughout the country have over the years demonstrated good sense of patriotism and should not undermine that patriotism by withdrawing their services as a result of anomalies associated with the implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure.
Mr.Haruna, who was speaking on Joy FM’s current affairs program, news file, stated that government was committed to improving the welfare of Ghanaian teachers and that the challenges that have arisen in the pay slip and calculation of teachers salaries, which can be attributed to both technical and human errors, will be rectified.
“Government will not renege its promise to implementing the Single Spine Salary Structure", stated Haruna, adding that adequate provisions were made even though with challenges, to ensure the full implementation of the Single Spine Salary Structure over a five year period.
He stressed it will be impossible to implement the Single Spine Salary Structure over a one year period.
The Minister also urged politicians not to politicise matters relating to the implementation of the Single Spine Pay Policy, saying it was a major national issue that needed no politicization.
