Team Multimedia missed another opportunity to win the annual Standard Chartered Trophy after losing out to Rivals EIB Network 4-1 in the 2018 edition final at the Lizzy Sports Complex on Saturday.
In their quest to prevent a repeat of the 2016 final defeat to GNPC, Team Multimedia after a twitchy start in their opening game to Chase Petroleum got into the groove by defeating Ernest and Young by 4 goals to nil and EIB Network by 2-1 to progress from the group stage.
The 2016 finalists then made light work of Technip in the quarter-final and progressed to the final after defeating Tv3 but failed to keep their heads in a 4-1 drubbing to miss the opportunity of making the Anfield trip.
The Standard Chartered "Road to Anfield" Trophy is an annual competition which gives a lifetime opportunity to people with diverse backgrounds around the globe to meet and spend time with Liverpool football stars and also aimed at deepening relationships between the bank and its clients and stakeholders.
Chief Financial Officer of Standard Chartered Bank, Kweku Ninfa Essuman, in his closing address lauded the efforts of the two finalists and assured the winners of an exciting trip to Anfield.
Liverpool legend, Sander Westerveld, who graced the occasion, tasked the winners to become the first African side to win the competition when they participate in Anfield.

Winners EIB will, therefore, represent Ghana at a World Tournament alongside other winners from the West Africa sub-region and will get a fully sponsored trip to Anfield – the home of five European Champions Liverpool in May for the competition.
