Togo has adopted the Ohene Djan Stadium as their home ground for the first leg of the qualifying series for the novelty Africa Nations Champions (CHAN) to be held in Cote d’Ivoire next year.
Following this, Togo will play Benin in the first leg of the qualifying series at the Ohene Stadium in Accra on Sunday, March 30.
The decision was necessitated by a three-home match ban placed on Togo by the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) due to crowd violence in their last home game against Mali.
Information gathered from the secretariat of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) reveals that the nation’s football controlling body has given its full backing to the request by the Togolese Football Federation.
According to the information, the GFA, in consultation with the Togolese Football Federation are putting the necessary measures in place to ensure a successful organization of the match.
The two countries as well as match officials are expected in the country on Friday, March 28, for the scheduled encounter.
Angry supporters of Togo invaded the pitch and attack player and match officials after the Hawks lost 2-0 to Mali in the last qualifying game for the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.
