Perhaps Adwoa Badu, a middleaged Kumasi trader was so overwhelmed by the love she had for her son who was facing trial for a narcotic offence that she decided to do the unthinkable.With determination, she walked boldly to the Kumasi court premises and attempted to bribe a member of staff of the High Court to destroy the docket on her son to avoid further prosecution.Her attempt backfired and Adwoa Badu, together with Adwoa Serwaa and Agnes Owusu, both traders, are now in the hands of the police pending further investigations.They were arrested on the court premises last Tuesday while in the process of bribing the member of staff, Mr Bernard Adomako. According to Mr Samuel Adugu, the High Court Registrar, the suspect, Akwasi Barima, who was standing trial, jumped bail and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest and the arrest of his surety.Mr Adugu said between 1998 and 2006, Akwasi Barima had been arrested four times for dealing in narcotic drugs, but he each time managed to jump bail.He said when a bench warrant was issued for his arrest on the last case, he was nowhere to be found so the police were asked to arrest his uncle who stood surety for him. When Adwoa Badu got wind of the bench warrant that had been issued for the arrest of her son as well as for her brother, she went to the court premises and sought the assistance of Bernard Adomako, a staff of the court, and offered him ¢1 million to retrieve the docket and destroy it. Bernard feigned interest and reported the matter to Mr. Adugu who in turn directed him to receive the money and report the matter to the police who later arrested them.The police have confirmed the case and said investigations were still going on.Source: The Mirror
