As Christmas day draws near, traders give mixed reactions over the sale of their wares.
Some of these traders who spoke to Myjoyonline.com during a visit to the Makola market at the Central Business District in Accra said business has been good. Others however complained of dwindling sales as compared to that of last year during the same period.
A trader who gave her name only as Tracy and sells wigs said even though women like to have new hairstyles during special occasions like Christmas, she has been disappointed into following this thinking. She stocked her shop with new items which are not being patronised as quickly as she envisaged.
At the Malam-Atta market at Accra New Town in the Greater Accra Region, the Ghana News Agency (GNA) reported that traders had similar reactions.
They spoke to one Madam Theresa who said that food items like rice and cooking oil that should have run out of stock by now are still available in large quantities.
She blamed the situation on tensions that followed this year’s disputed general elections and called on all political parties to let peace prevail.
Meanwhile, a cloth dealer - Madam Akua Dansoa- who said her business is doing fine and was very optimistic that things would even be better in the days ahead.
A market survey by the GNA revealed that a bag of Royal Feast rice cost GH¢ 114, Royal Aroma rice GH¢ 130 while prices of 50 kilogram of rice vary from GH¢ 12 to GH¢17.
Cooking oil also range from GH¢ 2.00 to GH¢74.
A tin of tomato also range from 50p to GH¢ 85 depending on the size and brand.
GTP clothes range from GH¢ 45 to GH¢50 while high target clothes costs between GH¢ 10 to GH¢ 30.
The prices of already-made dresses for children also range between GH¢15 to GH¢50.
