The Ghana Navy and other rescue officers are in desperate search for a crew member in the helicopter which sank in the waters of Cape Three Points, Thursday.
Three people have been confirmed dead but a fourth person is yet to be found several hours after the helicopter crashed into the waters.
Four others have since been rescued Albert Taylor Director of Air Travel Services at the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority confirmed to Joy News, Dzifa Bampoh.
He said five Ghanaians were part of the helicopter crew which sank into the waters.
Three other nationalities- a Nigerian, British and a French were all involved in the helicopter disaster. The victims were believed to be workers of Luk Oil.
It is not clear yet which of nationalities were rescued or found dead.
According to Mr Taylor, the helicopter took off from Takoradi airport at exactly 1250 GMT to one of the oil rigs. It was estimated to land at the rig at 1310 GMT.
However reports came from the control tower at the Takoradi Airport that the helicopter had crashed.
Mr Taylor said rescue efforts were quickly arranged between the Navy, Airforce and Tullow to protect lives.
