Vice President John Dramani Mahama is expected to arrive in Perth, Australia to attend this year's Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) slated for Friday, October 28 to Sunday October 30.
The Veep, who arrived at one o'clock in the morning (local time), Wednesday, was accompanied by Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration as well as other state dignitaries.
Meanwhile, the advance team made up of the Media and Security personnel arrived in the Western Australian city ahead of the conference.
This year's CHOGM, under the theme, "Building National Resilience, Building Global Resilience", would focus on food security, climate change, mining for development, polio eradication and sustainable development, among other thematic areas, was expected to be attended by all member countries.
The CHOGM is organized by the host nation, Australia, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat and would also focus on global and Commonwealth issues and would be expected to agree on collective policies and initiatives.
CHOGM is a biennial event that brings together all member states to discuss issues affecting them, mostly bordering on peace and security, democracy, good governance, sustainable development, debt management, education, environment, gender and health, human Rights and Information Technology issues.
This year's conference would also discuss the strengthening of Civil Society among member countries, hold retreat sessions for Heads of Governments.
