A Disaster Relief Committee instituted to raise funds to compensate victims of the gas explosion at Asokwa Engas Filling Station in Kumasi last September has realised 9,000 Ghana Cedis.
The money would be disbursed equally to the victims on Wednesday, May 28.
Nana Fe-Baamoah II, Asokwahene and Chairman of the 15-member committee, announced this at a press conference in Kumasi on Wednesday.
He said the money would be disbursed at the Asokwa Town Council Hall in the morning and appealed to the victims to submit documents especially police and medical reports for their compensation.
Nana Fe-Baamoah said organizations and individuals who contributed to the fund would be presented with certificates and appealed to Government and other stakeholders to support the committee to generate more funds to support the victims, adding” the money realised is not enough for the victims.”
He said available statistics indicated that the victims were, 168 from Kumasi South Hospital, 224 from Asokwa Police Station, two from West End Clinic, 154 from Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and 38 from Saint Michael’s Hospital at Pramso.
The compensation package for the victims was instituted by Mr Maxwell Kofi Jumah, Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Nana Fe-Baamoah and other opinion leaders from Asokwa.Source: GNA
