The Volta Regional Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Constituency Chairmen have disengaged themselves from a group purporting to propose former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, as a NDC flagbearer for the 2012 Election.
They said that the attention of the party in the region was drawn to media publication that a group was proposing the former first lady as a NDC flagbearer.
These were contained in a press statement read by Mr. Kwasi Aboagye, NDC Volta Regional Chairman, after a meeting with the Constituency Chairmen at the party's regional office at Ho.
It said that the action of the group was premature and likely to create unnecessary tension and division within the party, adding that the Volta Regional NDC disassociates itself from the action and any pronouncements associated with it.
The statement said "We condemn their action and reaffirm the region's total unflinching support for President John Evans Attah Mills towards actuating the Better Ghana agenda."
In a related development, the Volta Regional branch of the United Cadres Front of the NDC, in a release signed by Mr. Henry Ametepe, Regional Coordinator, renewed the group's loyalty to the Mills-led administration and for his presidential candidacy for the 2012 Election.
The statement indicated that the Front draws its strength from the humility, commitment and adherence to the principles of probity, accountability anchored on social democratic credential of the NDC.
It reminded all those vying for political office that "no amount of detraction or undue interference in the affairs of the party would succeed."
Meanwhile all well-meaning activists and supporters of the NDC have been asked to avoid acts, likely to undermine the achievement of the Better Ghana Agenda of the Mills administration.
The Ashanti Regional United Cadres Front, which made the call, expressed worry at the manner some NDC members were conducting themselves and pushing hard their hidden political agenda.
A statement jointly signed by two of the leading members of the Front, Mr. Dennis Kombat and Mr. Mohammed Moro, in Kumasi, said that any such scheme to push out President John Evans Atta Mills would not work.
It distanced the cadres in the region from "the disgraceful campaign strategy adopted by some faceless people to prevent the President from seeking another four-year term."
The statement said that the Front would not countenance any form of disrespect towards the President.
It expressed support and confidence in the leadership of President Mills and government appointees in the region including the Regional Minister, Mr Kofi Opoku-Manu and the Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr. Samuel Sarpong.
