The Staff Unions of the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GPHA) have withdrawn allegations they levelled against the Board Chair of the Authority, Peter Mac Manu.

In a statement Friday, signed by Henry Papa Oppong and Maxwell Cudjoe, they apologized for the 'embarrassment and inconvenience' they have caused to Mr Manu and his family.

According to them, they did not call the May 22 press conference to level the allegation against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman out of malice.

‘As a Union and social partner with a common objective of working together with management towards achieving the objectives of GPHA, we had some serious concerns about the happenings in GPHA which we were not happy about,’

‘After the press conference, it has come to our notice that we did not engage management as we should have done before holding the press conference,’ the statement said.

Last month, the staff unions held a press conference led by Chairman of the Senior Staff Union of the Authority, Joseph Aseeph, to accuse Mac Manu of awarding contracts to companies belonging to his wife.

According to them, Mr Manu was breaching procurement processes for his personal benefit, so they impressed on the president to dismiss him.

However, the GPHA Board Chair described the allegations as lies describing the claims as painful.

Following from that, Mr Manu’s lawyers formally wrote to Mr Aseeph to retract and apologise for the “spurious allegations of corruption and conflict of interest” claims else he would be sued.

“Our client finds your allegations highly defamatory and toxic to his reputation which he, as a businessman and politician, has worked tirelessly over many decades to build,” the letter addressed to Mr Aseeph said in part.

In a press conference Friday, Mr John Aseeph, said the unions unreservedly apologise to the Board Chairman, his wife and family.
