The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, has called for collective effort and sound policy to turn the nation’s aspirations into reality.
She made the remarks at the opening of the University of Ghana’s 77th Annual New Year School and Conference (ANYSC) on Tuesday, January 6, themed “Building the Ghana We Want, Together for Sustainable Development.”
“The Ghana we desire cannot be spoken into existence; it must be worked into reality, built by our collective effort, guided by sound policy, and held together by our common bond,” Prof. Amfo said.
Highlighting the priorities outlined by President Mahama in his New Year's message to the nation, she said they reflect the Ghanaian citizens' desire.
“Your Excellency, in your New Year message to the nation, you reaffirmed the commitment to building a Ghana anchored in inclusive growth, sustainable infrastructure, energy security, quality education , health care, youth empowerment, environmental responsibility, and renewed integrity in public life,” she said.
Prof. Amfo added that these priorities are essential for a nation that grows not only economically but also in equity, opportunity, and trust.
“These priorities reflect the Ghana we all desire, a nation that grows not only in economic terms but also in equity, opportunity, and trust,” she noted.
The 77th Annual New Year School and Conference (ANYSC), organised by the School of Continuing and Distance Education (SCDE) under the College of Education, is the university’s flagship platform for academic and policy engagement.
The conference brought together government officials, academics, industry leaders, civil society organisations, and development partners to examine Ghana’s development trajectory and propose practical, inclusive solutions.
The Annual New Year School and Conference continues to serve as a critical platform for national dialogue, reinforcing the University of Ghana’s role in shaping public policy and driving national development.
