Majority chief whip, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has called on parliament to work together to ensure that the code of conducts of parliament is sustained for effective running of the institution.
Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, who is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase was reacting to a resolution of unsavoury remarks made against the Speaker of Parliament by the MP for Effiduase Asokore in the Ashanti region, Frank Boakye Agyen.
Mr. Boakye Agyen had accused the speaker of being influenced in his ruling dismissing a motion filed by the minority demanding investigation into the sale of Merchant Bank to Fortiz Private Equity Fund.
But the MP for Effiduase Asokore today ate back his words and apologized for his conduct through a statement read on the floor of parliament.
His apology was readily accepted by the Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho and the leadership of parliament including Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, who had raised serious reservation about the behaviour of the MP for Effiduase Asokore.
Speaking to Joy News Tuesday, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak described the unqualified apology rendered by the MP for Affiduase Asokore to the Speaker of Parliament as the right step to take.
According to him, the apology has brought out the fact that the comments of the MP against the speaker "was not good as he had no evidence to show".
He therefore commended him for coming out boldly to acknowledge his fault and apologised to the Speaker.
"The issue has come to an end and parliament will work together to ensure that the code of conducts of parliament is sustained", Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak noted.
The latest development on the issue came after the leadership of parliament prevailed on the Speaker, who had earlier directed the Privileges Committee to look into the issue, to allow the leadership to handle the matter.
On the floor of parliament, Mr. Boakye Agyen confessed that his comments were not based on facts but was motivated by political motives.
Meanwhile, the deputy Minority Leader, Dominic Nitiwul and Majority Leader, Dr. Benjamin Kunbuor called on the MPs to be mindful of their utterances after the speaker of parliament accepted the apology and cautioned the MPs to be professional in their duties and continue to work together in the interest of the people.
