Gospel artiste, Isaac Opoku popularly known as Yaw Sarpong has named ‘S3 Anka Enye Awurade’ song as his favourite of all his hit songs.
According to the prolific song composer and songwriter, there is a touching story behind his most preferred song which translates literally to ‘If it wasn’t for God’.
“My father was a Member of Parliament during Kwame Nkrumah’s government but after the coup, he was arrested. Upon his return, he could not survive," he told JoyNews’ Becky in an interview on E Vibes.
Casting my mind back in my musical journey, I had nobody to sponsor my career. So these life challenges inspired me to write this song.”
He added that none of his brothers were high school graduates because of their father's demise.
With over 40 years of doing music, 26 albums, the lead singer for the Asomafo band has made waves in the gospel music industry.

His songs have been an inspiration to many in all corners of the country.
With a strong passion for singing, Yaw Sarpong in the early stages of life joined the Methodist singing group at Asuofua in the Ashanti Region where he was discovered by one medical doctor who also wanted to form a music group in 1971.

He recorded his first album in 1981 titled Adesrede (Request) and second album between 1983 and 1984.
