Zipline Ghana Limited has donated 25 life jackets to nurses and fishermen at Ekye, a community in the Kwahu Afram Plains South District of the Eastern Region.
The donations by the drone technology firm were made on Friday, June 28, and formed part of Zipline's corporate social responsibility.
The life jackets are to help save the lives of nurses who travel daily on the Volta Lake and other water bodies in the area to work.
Presenting the lifejackets to the various beneficiaries at Ekye, Naa Adorkor Yawson, the Systems Integration Lead for Zipline, said the firm deemed it necessary to protect lives and assured of its preparedness to continue supporting communities that fall within its jurisdiction.
Receiving the lifejackets on behalf of the fishermen, Mr Theophilus Avor, Assemblyman for Ekye-Amanfrom, thanked Zipline for the kind gesture.
"We are very very happy," the Assemblyman said, adding that travelling on this lake was very risky during a storm.
He said it was the first time a private company has donated lifejackets to fisher folks in the area.
Madam Joana Amankwah, the District Director of Health, lauded Zipline for the support and expressed the belief that the extension of medical drone delivery services to the area would help save more lives.
Zipline medical drone delivery service was launched in Ghana on April 24, by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at Omenako in the Eastern Region.
It is expected to serve hard-to-reach communities, especially during emergency cases with 148 different medical supplies.
It is to serve 2,000 health facilities and 12 million people across the country to improve the delivery of health care and aimed at meeting the universal health coverage as envisaged in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030.
