The Bono Regional Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Collins Kyeremeh, for allegedly possessing a firearm and substances suspected to be narcotic drugs at Odumase in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region.
According to a police statement signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer for the Command, the suspect was arrested following an intelligence-led operation at his residence.
During a search, police officers discovered a polythene bag containing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp hidden in the ceiling of the suspect’s bathroom.
“During preliminary interrogation, the suspect initially denied possessing any firearm but later admitted it and led the Police to an uncompleted building near his residence,” the statement revealed.
The police subsequently retrieved a Makarov pistol and four rounds of 7.62x17mm ammunition from the location.
The suspect is currently in police custody, assisting with the investigation, and is expected to be arraigned before the court in the coming days.
The Bono Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations aimed at clamping down on criminal activities, particularly the unlawful possession of firearms and narcotics in the region.
