The police administration says it is still in the business of handsomely rewarding informants who help the police in combating crime.

According to DCOP Rev. David N. Ampah-Bennin, Director-General Public Affairs Department of the Ghana Police Service, between January 2012 and August 2014, about 200 informants have been given monetary reward for supporting the Police with information to fight crime.

“The reward package ranges from GH¢2,000.00 to GH¢20,000.00, depending on the gravity of the crime and other factors,” he mentioned in a statement he issued on Thursday.

“The public are reminded that the Informant Reward System instituted by the Service to reward individuals who volunteer information to the Police leading to major arrests is still in force,” he stressed.

DCOP Rev. Ampah-Bnennin therefore reiterated the Service’s call on the general public to continue to collaborate with the police to effectively fight crime and maintain law and order in the country.

“Whilst assuring informants of utmost protection of their identities, the Police Service wishes to remind the public to partner the Police to fight crime, as crime combat is a shared responsibility.”
