President John Dramani Mahama has expressed concern over a video recorded by the Buzstop Boys, showing fish being dried in what he described as unhygienic conditions at Tema Newtown.
Speaking at Ringway Gospel Centre Assemblies of God, Mahama said the video, which captured the sanitation situation at the fishing community, revealed the poor environmental conditions under which fish meant for the market was being processed.
"The fish is supposed to come into the market. These Buzstop Boys went to Tema Newtown, and if you see the rubbish there, they were drying fish. And that fish is supposed to come into the market," he said.
He said the footage highlights the urgent need for improved sanitation and better management of food processing areas to protect public health.
Mahama also commended the work of the Buzstop Boys, a group known for drawing public attention to sanitation challenges through their environmental advocacy activities.
The President further urged Ghanaians to adopt responsible waste disposal habits, warning that throwing sachet water wrappers, Styrofoam containers, food packaging and other refuse into drains contributes to flooding.
Quoting James 2:17, which states that "faith without works is dead," Mahama said environmental cleanliness requires action and must be reflected in the behaviour and character of citizens.
