A 67-year-old woman at Nwenso Number One in the Ashanti region has lost her life after an anointing oil being used to heal her mysteriously sparked fire burning her to death.
Yaa Donkor’s clothes reportedly caught fire during the healing process.
She died three days later while on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Police at Foase in the Atwima Kwanewoma District are investigating the bizarre incident as relatives and residents have been thrown into a state of shock.
District Commander, DSP Kwaku Mensah, who confirmed the incident to Joy News’ Kwesi Debrah, said the deceased went to see a pastor on her return from the farm.
She had complained of waist pains and sought healing from Isaac Wiredu in his house. Isaac pastors the Bethel Church.
DSP Mensah indicated that the pastor reportedly rubbed some anointing oil on her waist and in the process, it sparked a fire and burnt the upper part of her body.
The pastor and his in-law who were present at the time rushed the deceased to the hospital where she died three days later.
Assemblyman for the area told the reporter that the pastor is a known healer in the community and most times, his recommendations worked.
But the deceased’s grandson is baffled at how the incident occurred.
Akwasi Adu said when he visited the hospital, he noticed that although his grandmother’s entire upper body was burnt, only a small part of her blouse got burnt.
The pastor upon hearing the death of Yaa Donkor went into hiding but turned himself in following the arrest of his in-law.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the morgue awaiting the autopsy.
