The Keta Government Hospital has over the years been described as one of the best hospitals in the country despite challenges faced by the hospital.
Inadequate space at the maternity unit has compelled the nurses to attend to the patients on the floor.
According to the Medical Superintendent of the Keta Hospital Dr Kwesi Asare Bediako, at a plaque ceremony to celebrate the hospital’s achievements and awards, he said the hospital is in urgent need of physiotherapy department in Keta for patients in order to serve the people better.
“We lack funding to establish the physiotherapy unit and we are appealing to individuals, organisations and the government to help us achieve this,” Dr Asare pleaded
Dr Asare said that the inadequate space at the maternity unit is also being shared with the neonatal intensive care unit and is compounding the already worrying situation.

He also mentioned that inadequate clinical staff has compelled management to hire temporary staff to fill spaces, which is putting a huge burden on the hospital.
"The hospital spends about GHC43,000 monthly to pay salaries for these temporary staffs" Dr Asare said.
He however appealed to the government and organisations to come to their aid.
The Awormefia of Anlo land, Togbui Sri 111, who was the special guest of honour, congratulated the hospital for winning the best hospital award in 2017.
Torgbui Sri pledged that he will make sure that he personally speaks with the Minister for Health and the President on the challenges faced by the hospital.
He urged the hospital management and staff to continue the good work with good health delivery.
The Keta Government Hospital won the first in peer review in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Keta Government Hospital, which was established in 1926, serves as the main referral facility in the Keta Municipality and has a mission to implement approved national policies and improve health services.
