Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) as part of its activities to commemorate its 40^th anniversary has donated assorted items and a cash amount of 10,000 cedis to inmates of the Weija Leprosarium.

At a brief ceremony held at the Christ the King Parish here in Accra on Thursday 7 March 2019, the administrators donated bags of rice, vegetable oil, toiletries among other provisions.

Present at the ceremony were Rev.Fr. Campbell; Chair Person of the Leper's Aid Committee, some of the cured lepers and a Patron of the group Mr. Evans Aryee Quaye.

The president of the Association Mr. Kwame Yeboah leading the national executives to present the items said it was appropriate to support the inmate as part of their corporate social responsible and also giving back to the society.

“….as part of the activities to make our presence felt, we decided to make this donation as a gesture for all of us as a country to emulate”.

“The people are marginalized, they are virtually dejected, image grown ups living on 1 cedi a day, it’s very pathetic, so as an association we thought there was the need to give some back to the society”.

Mr Kwame Yeboah also indicated the associations resolve to assist the inmates from time to time.

“We know that there are certain items they still need, items they need to take care of their wounds and I would say that we would be at the forefront to assist them….  They have found friends with GAUA”.

The association comprises professionals that run the university system, we have professionals in the medical field, architecture, administration and management and IT.  

The items and cash were received by Rev. Fr. Campbell supported by some of the cured lepers.

In a short address, Father Campbell said the inmates depend greatly on the benevolence of individuals, groups and organizations.

He thanked the association led by Mr. Yeboah for the kind gesture and encouraged members not to shun them but treat them with respect and dignity.
