On Tuesday 5th March 2019, The Roman Ridge School (TRRS) celebrated Independence Day in grand style with a spectacular display of Ghanaian culture, history and tradition. 

Pupils, parents and staff worked together to prepare a vibrant Cultural Showcase inspired by various regional areas across Ghana, including Eastern, Central & Western, Ashanti & Brong Ahafo, Northern and Upper East & West, Volta and Greater Accra/Ga-Adangbe.

Performances were collaborative and creative medleys of traditional dance, dramatizations and music.

Colourful stands were erected at the front of the school, displaying interesting titbits of information to help all in attendance learn more about our Ghanaian history and heritage and boasting a wide variety of interesting artefacts, costumes and a large spread of mouth-watering local delicacies for everyone to taste and enjoy.

Today’s programme is a celebration and exhibition of the colourful and vibrant culture, history and heritage of Ghana.

It seeks to provide each and every one of us with an educational experience, that will bring help us better understand and appreciate one another.

It highlights the very best of Ghanaian culture, in all its diversity and all its beauty, richness and significance.

This is education. This is learning.

My message to all of you today is to open up and embrace all that this wonderful country has to offer us.

We are so blessed to live in this beautiful nation and we should never take for granted the abundance we have all around us. Sometimes we forget, or we think it’s cool or fashionable to pretend that we are from somewhere else or we try to distance ourselves from where we come from.

Our hope is that today’s event inspires you and fills you with pride and the confidence to be more curious about your culture, your heritage.

Ask your parents and family about where you come from, take pride in your history, your ancestry, your food, your language, wisdom and practices.

Equipped with your education, work ethic, integrity, discipline and drive to lead and grow this country that has served all of us so well, and rooted proudly in our culture and heritage – we are unstoppable and the sky is the limit. 

It is an exciting time for Ghana and an exciting time to be a Ghanaian.
