There is relief on the horizon for nine communities dotted along the Volta River in the Ada East District in the Greater Accra Region, as they have finally gotten access to potable water.
This follows a 2018 report filed by JOYNEWS’ Martha Crentsil Acquah, during the World Water Day celebration, in which she highlighted how the Island communities’ surrounded by water lacked potable water.

The water had been polluted through salt mining, shell mining and other human activities.
One year on, however, some communities including Aflive and Pediatorkepe have potable water through the benevolence of Easy Water for Everyone, a non-governmental organisation.
Country Director of the NGO, Harrison Matti, said in keeping with their promise last year, they have set up water purification machines for seven communities.
Medical Superintendent of the Ada East District Hospital, Dr. Philip Narh, confirmed the hospital is receiving fewer cases of diarrhoea and other water-related diseases since potable water was extended to the island communities.
