Police in the Bono East region have pegged the number of passengers in the two buses that collided on the Kintampo-Techiman road on Friday at 108.
According to Kintampo Divisional Police Commander, ACP Joseph Antwi Gyawu 55 persons have been confirmed dead. He also told Joy News Bono East Region Correspondent, Anas Sabbit that 35 of the deceased could not be identified.
He said 53 of them survived but with various degrees of injuries. He aded tht the survivors are receiving treatment at various health facilities.
The officer gave the following breakdown of the injured and where they had been sent to; 40 were sent to the Jema Hospital; 12 persons are also receiving medical attention at the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman while one other person is receiving treatment at the Government Hospital in Wenchi.
He said the fatal accident happened around 2: 00 am on Friday at a town called Ampoma in the Bono East Region.
Preliminary investigations reveal the two buses, one with registration number GT 5694 18 and the other GT 3916 17.
Both had a total of 108 passengers on board.

One of the buses caught fire after the head-on collision, worsening the effects of the accident.
Reactions
Speaking to Joy News’ Joseph Opoku Gakpo, MP for the area, Felicia Adjei expressed sorrow at the tragedy. She added that one of the drivers might have been asleep; leading to the accident.
Minority Spokesperson on Transport, Kwame Agbodza, however, hesitated against apportioning blame, saying that it could also be a mechanical fault.
He added that Parliament will summon the Transport Minister, to answer questions on the progress of the Presidential taskforce to curb road accidents.
PRO of the Road Safety Commission, Kwame Atuahene noted that the Commission will assess what happened and put out an authoritative response to the media.
