A 29-year old man, Ali Moro has been arrested for assaulting an official of the National Identification Authority (NIA) at Kharyya D. A. Primary school at Sabongida in the Northern regional capital, Tamale.
Moro and two others went to the Ghana Card registration centre claiming to be members of the Sabongida Assembly’s Unit Committee.
According to Joy News’ Martina Bugri, the three men tried to direct the NIA officials on how to go about their work and attacked one of them when they refused to take heed of their instructions.
The three also destroyed some of the Authority’s equipment.
Moro was arrested after a report was made to the police. The other two suspects, however, escaped.
He was arraigned and charged with unlawful damage to the NIA’s equipment and remanded into police custody.
The case has been adjourned to Thursday, October 24.
Northern region police crime officer, Sup. Ottuo Acheampong said they are in search of the two other accomplices who aided in the assault.
