Miss Gloria Akuffo, Minister of Aviation, has for the third time inspected the on-going rehabilitation works of the Kumasi Airport in Kumasi.
The Minister, accompanied by Mr.George Kwadwo Scot, Director of the Ministry of Aviation, Mr Twumasi Ankra-Selby, Technical Director of the Ministry were on Wednesday taken round by Mr Stefano Ramella, Managing Director of the Consar Limited, contractors of the project.
She was also at the Airport on Tuesday night to see how effective the lighting system on the tarmac worked at nights.
The works involved the construction of the V.I.P Lounge and the rehabilitation of the areas, including the Arrival and Departure halls, the Control Room, Rescue and Fire Station as well as provision of lighting system at the tarmac.
Mr Seth Armah of the Bans Consult, consultant of the project said the works started in September last year and that about 95 per cent of the work has so far been completed.
He said that the remaining works involving fixing of electrical fittings, doors and tarring of the premises would be completed by the weekend.
Miss Akuffo speaking in an interview with newsmen later expressed satisfaction with the work so far executed at the Airport.
She indicated that her Ministry was committed to improve facilities of the various Airports in the country to enable them to meet international standards in view with the impending CAN 2008 Soccer Tournament to be held this month.
The Minister said the provision of lighting system at the tarmac was a temporary measure and hoped that permanent ones would be provided later to help improve facilities at the Airport.
Miss Akuffo appealed to the Local Organizing Committee of the CAN 2008 Soccer Tournament to advertise at the Airport to depict that the Tournament would soon take-off.
She congratulated the Consar Limited for the good work so far executed at the Airport and appealed to other contractors to emulate them.
