The Supreme Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Na Mahama Abukari II, has called on the Otumfour Osei Tutu II over the disputes at Nanton, a suburb of the Dagbon area.
This historic visit by the Ya-Na to the Manhyia, the palace of Otumfuo, is the Ya-Na's first since his ascension to the skin earlier this year.
The Dagbon overlord says the overall efforts of Otumfou Osei Tutu II and the eminent chiefs to instil peace at Dagbon will be meaningless if the rising tension caused by the disputes in Nanton is ignored.
The visit by the Ya-Na and a delegation from the Dagbon Traditional Council is also aimed at renewing the bond between Asanteman and Dagbon.
The two gates of Dagbon traditional area, Abudu and Andani, also brought a delegation to the Manhyia palace to affirm the peace brokered between them.
The delegation will take part in the last Awukudae celebration that is ongoing at Manhyia. Awukudae is an ancestral rite by the chiefs and elders of Asanteman.
Ya-Nan urged the Otumfuo to use his eminent office to settle the rising chieftaincy issues in Nanton which the Ya-Na reveals brings him sleepless nights.
"We are overwhelmed by your support and assistance in the mediation processes that have helped to bring a lasting peace for the benefit of the people," the Ya-Na said through his sub-chief Naa Dr Yakubu Mahama.
“There were a lot of challenges and controversies that stalled the progress and development of Dagbon, but now we can heave a sigh of relief, but we want Otumfui to use his high office to bring peace once again to Nanton," the Ya-Na said through his sub-chief again.
