Madam Dajango Nawikpo, an old lady in her early 70s, is alleging that boxer Joseph King-Kong Agbeko is her biological son, and that they parted company many years ago due to some pressures.

Madam Nawikpo who told the Ghana News Agency  Sports in a telephone interview from Keta in the Volta Region, lamented that Agbeko’s managers had tried hard to conceal the true identity of her son (Agbeko), which was frustrating her, saying, “I want to reconnect with my son before I die.”

The old lady who is currently not working due to her age, explained that she has been having sleepless nights over the matter, saying, “I wish I was even dead. How can I have my child and I cannot see him before I die.”

She said she got married to one David Kawuku Fianu, a retired soldier, and gave birth to Agbeko in Tamale, saying, “Agbeko is my third born out of six children, two girls and four boys, and I lost one boy later.”

She explained that any attempt to get closer to Agbeko has proven futile, “Since the management team of Agbeko has prevented the other family members, including me, to have access to our blood,” she said in between sobs.

Mr Kojo Fianu, a businessman, based in Tamale in the Northern Region, one of Nawikpo’s sons, claiming to be the biological younger brother of  Agbeko said, he was told about his elder brother Agbeko, but did not know his whereabouts until he shot to fame.

He claimed that those surrounding  Agbeko and  claiming to be his parents,  are not his real parents, and challenged them to conduct a DNA test to prove their biological links, stressing that “my mother and I are ready for any DNA test to prove our blood relationship.”

He said their father, Mr Fianu who was a soldier, got married to their mother,  and gave birth to them in Tamale, but the marriage ended after their father was transferred from Tamale to Takoradi.

The businessman said their father married a different woman and the young Agbeko who was then about eight years lived with the step-mother until he disappeared, and frantic search for him by the parents and the military did not yield results.

He said recent events and the popularity of Agbeko caught the attention of both parents who are currently old, to realize that the boxer is indeed their child who disappeared many years ago.

Mr Fianu therefore made a passionate appeal to Agbeko to trace his umbilical cord for a family reunion since blood is thicker than water, saying, “Get re-connected to us for posterity sake,” and said  they did not need any material gain from Agbeko but they just want their blood relation be re-established.

Mr Fianu said, their father,  now on retirement, is living in Accra.

When contacted, Mr Ebenezer Noi, Public Relations Officer of Agbeko denied all the claims being made by Kojo Fianu and his mother, and explained that Agbeko was born at Sukura in Accra and lived there during his childhood days until he later moved to Accra Central to start his boxing career.

He said Agbeko comes from Aflao and had both parents alive stressing that the father had never been to the military before, and urged Fianu to stop disturbing their peace since he has been to Agbeko’s house before with the same claims.

When asked to mention the biological names of Agbeko’s parents, Mr Noi said, “I don’t know their names, I only call them Daavi and Efo,” adding that management did not want to take any legal action against Fianu because it has not reached that stage yet.
