Seven people have been confirmed dead while 25 others are seriously injured in a train crash in the early hours of Thursday at Huni-Valley in the Western Region.
Of the injured, one is said to be in a very critical condition.
Five bodies of the dead have been recovered while the remaining two were still trapped in the wreckage as at the time of filing this report.
The dead included a pregnant woman, and the police suspect the death toll could even be higher.
Joy News’ correspondent, Maame Tiwaa Mills, said a Takoradi-bound goods train carrying bauxite and another from the opposite direction crashed into each other when the former derailed.
A survivor said those who boarded the goods train did so because they did not have any other means of transport.
The injured have been admitted to the Tarkwa Government Hospital whilst the dead have been deposited at the morgue.
The Assembly Member for the area, Anthony Kwaku Obeng, said a crane was yet to be sent in from Tarkwa to recover the other trapped bodies, eight hours after the accident.
