Former National Security Co-ordinator Kofi Bentum Quantson says drug traffickers seem to be a step ahead of the authorities dealing with the problem. He says the country’s approach in fighting the drug menace is adhoc and ineffective.Mr. Quantson who is also a former Bureau of National Investigation boss has therefore recommended a non-partisan Parliamentary Commission to review Ghana’s effort at combating drug trafficking. His recommendation coincides with the United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.Ghana is widely believed to have become a hub for drug trafficking. That, security experts say poses serious security threats to the country and her citizens.Mr. Quantson says the state must vigorously enforce the laws on drug trafficking to make it an unattractive business.Story by Malik Abass Daabu
