There is uneasy calm in Bawku following the alleged shooting of a 20-year-old man in police custody by police on guard duty.Ndebugre Atambiim was arrested two days ago by the police for breaching the curfew and gunned down after he attempted to escape.The Upper East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ofosu Mensah Gyeabor confirmed the incident to Joy News.He said a team of investigators headed by the Regional Crime Officer was yet to come out with its report.He said many people were fleeing the area.The Presiding Member of the Bawku Municipal Assembly John Agobri told Joy News that residents feared the incident may trigger further violence.He commended the president for inviting the Bawku Chief, Naba Abugrago Azoka to the Castle for another round of talks.Mr. Agobri expressed the hope that President Kufuor will use the opportunity to make an official statement on the crisis.Meanwhile the flag bearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom has called on President Kufuor to visit the Bawku area.That, he said will show bold leadership.Story by Malik Abass Daabu
