The police have mounted a man-hunt for one Benjamin Sey, also known as Paa Osei, who is believed to be the leader of a gang of thieves who stole railway lines worth about 11,000 dollars at Feyiase near Bekwai in the Amansie East District of Ashanti, on July 19 this year.
The police are also after one Afriyie Grushie, a labourer who is said to be an accomplice in the case, while six persons have been arrested.
Superintendent Felix Kwasi Cosmos, Bekwai District Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency at Bekwai on Wednesday, that the two suspects managed to escape when the police swooped on the gang on the day of the incident to effect their arrest following a tip-off.
He said those arrested were Emmanuel Addo, 29, Akwasi Owusu, 23, Mohammed Ismaili, 28, Karim Hassan, 26, Suleman Hamza, 39 and Kwasi Grushie, 35.
Supt Cosmos said that after the police had arrested the culprits they retrieved 46 pieces of railway lines, cut to the length of about eight metres each and loaded in a KIA truck.
He said the police would soon put the suspects before court after investigations have been completed.
