The Tema Regional Police Criminal Investigations Department has handed over to the Larteh Police two persons suspected to have stolen a taxicab at Larteh and attempted to sell it in Ashaiman.
The two, Kwasi Adu, a 23-year-old driver and Yaw Anim, a 25-year-old carpenter, were arrested by soldiers who feigned interest in buying the Suzuki Esteem Taxi cab with registration number GS 3513 Y for GH¢3,000.
Adu and Anim, both residents of Adukrom, attacked the driver of the cab, inflicting multiple knife wounds on him and robbed him of the car in the early hours of July 23, police said.
The Tema Police Public Affairs Officer, Inspector Olivia Turkson, told the Ghana News Agency on Friday that a brother of one of soldiers informed them of the suspicious manner the two were offering the car for sale at Ashaiman at about 1630 hours same day.
She said upon interrogation by the police, Adu vehemently denied stealing the vehicle, stating that he bought the unregistered car from Yaw Adam, a trader who operates between Koforidua and Lome, Togo, at the cost of GH¢2,200.
Inspector Turkson said at about 1930 hours the same day, Police personnel from Larteh informed the Regional CID that two suspects attacked a taxi driver at about 0500 hours in Larteh and robbed him of the car.
