The Volta Regional Police Commander, DCOP Bernard Dery has called on the government to reconsider the decision to repeal the criminal libel law.He said the media were abusing the media freedom in the country.Mr. Dery told Joy News that journalists were engaged in character assassination following the repeal of the law.He said press freedom does not mean that journalists should go on rampage and attack the privacy of public office holders.“The law needs serious rethinking,” he said.The repeal of the criminal libel law has generated a huge controversy with many people blaming reckless journalism on it.The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) president, Mr. Ransford Tetteh, however, said the media will resist any attempt to reintroduce the law.He said never again will journalists in the country be subjected to criminal libel.Story by Malik Abass Daabu
