The Nkawkaw Divisional Police led by Divisional Crime Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Adamu Seidu, have arrested two people with 10 bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp at Kwahu Besease and Nkawkaw-Asuogya following a tip off.
Seven bags were found with Zakari Kusasi 28, a trader at Kwahu Besease near Kwahu Praso, while three bags were found with Kwasi Owusu, 35, a driver at Nkawkaw Asuogya.
Nkawkaw Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police Paul Awuni, told the Ghana News Agency that a quantity of the leaves was found under the mattress of Kusasi when his door was forced opened after he refused to let the police in after several knocks on the door.
He said Kusasi told the police that the leaves were given to him by his friend, a charcoal dealer from Yendi in the Northern Region for safe keeping while Owusu said he received his supply from the Afram Plains.
Chief Superintendent Awuni said the leaves would be sent to police forensic laboratory for examination and the suspects prosecuted after investigation.
He appealed to the public to assist the police with the needed information to clamp down on activities of drug peddlers in the area.
