About 200 casual workers on the presidential palace are on a sit-down strike in protest over what they refer to as bad conditions of service.They say the GH¢ 3.00 allowances per day given them are not enough and have called on the authorities for upward adjustments.After two years of hard work, the workers claim they have not received a raise in allowance, but have been used as “slaves.”Joy Fm’s Sammy Darko who interacted with the workers on Monday reports that they have decided to lay down their tools due to rumours that some will be laid off.According to them, there is no redundancy package in sight for them, and can no longer work under such deplorable conditions.They have therefore called on the authorities to address their problems before they return to work.Officials are however appealing to them to rescind their decision.Meanwhile, the presidential palace which will be the seat of government is due to be completed next month.Author: Nathan Gadugah
