A Member of the Council of State, Mr. Ato Essuman, has called on the leadership of various political parties to demonstrate their commitment to peace by ensuring that their supporters keep violence out of their campaign activities.Addressing a durbar to climax a week-long Akwanbo festival of the chiefs and people of Enyan Apaa in the Central Region, Mr. Essuman urged Ghanaians to ensure that gains made over the years in the country’s political dispensation are further developed and not destroyed.While urging parents to invest in their children’s education, Mr Essuman, also called on chiefs and other community leaders to institute measures to ensure that children were retained in school.Mr. Essuman held that education that did not lead to the development and total well-being of the individual was not worth pursuing.He appealed to parents and children in rural areas not to end education at the basic level, adding that they must go beyond that in order to realise their full potential.Mr. Essuman bemoaned the alarming reports of teenage pregnancy in basic schools and tasked parents, teachers and community leaders, including Assembly members, not to renege on their responsibility of providing proper direction to their children.He announced a scholarship for 10 brilliant children from the town for their four-year senior high school education and also donated GHc5,000 towards development projects in the area.Source: GNA
