Ahanta Traditional Council in the Western Region has served notice that it would go ahead to confer an honourary traditional title on the MP for the Effia-Kwesimintsim, Joe Baidoo Ansah. When conferred on him, Hon. Baidoo-Ansah would become the Nkosohene of the area. But a group of young men who claim to be hailing from the region have raised opposition. The group told the press in Takoradi, the regional capital that it would resist any attempt by the traditional council to present the MP the new designation.According to the young men the Trade Minister is not an Ahanta. However, sources close to Mr Baidoo-Ansah have described the group’s action as politically-motivated.The sources also said the group had no influence in the affairs of the Ahantaman Traditional Council. In an interview with Joy News, a member of the Traditional Council Nana Estine Kofi, Chief of Aboadze said the council in no way shaken by the protests. He said the Ahanta Traditional Council does not require the approval of every member of the community in conferring traditional titles. The council in its earlier sittings decided to induct the Effia-Kwesimintsim Mintim MP into the traditional council to spur the development of the area.Listen to audio attachment of for voice of chief of AboadzeAuthor: Fiifi Koomson
