Police are upbeat about ensuring a violence free election in the December polls.
A high powered meeting of police chiefs made up of the IGP Patrick Acheampong, Regional Police Commanders and the Interior Minister Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor have considered several strategies to ensure a peaceful election.
High on the agenda were recent clashes in Gushiegu which claimed three lives, and plans to avert future clashes.
Speaking to a Joy Fm correspondent Samson Lardi Ayenini after the meeting, DCOP James Oppong Barnor said the police will concentrate on flash points across the country to ensure elections are conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.
He also noted the police are working to gain access to certain areas which were hitherto inaccessible to the police.
Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor reiterated government’s resolve to deal ruthlessly with perpetrators of violence before, during and after the election.
He also reminded the police to put on their name tags to ensure professionalism.
