Former President Flt Lt (rtd) Jerry John Rawlings has expressed deep shock at the passing away of Finance Minister and New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Kwadwo Baah Wiredu.
In a statement issued shortly after news broke of Baah Wiredu’s death, President Rawlings said Ghana had lost a dedicated son.
The statement singed by Mr. Kofi Adams, spokesperson for Rawlings, quotes the former leader as saying “Throughout his political career he (Baah-Wiredu) exhibited an element of humility which is lacking within our current political dispensation and which endeared him to his colleagues and political opponents alike.”
“My heartfelt condolences go to his family for such a loss,” President Rawlings intimated.
Meanwhile Professor John Evans Atta Mills, presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, has also expressed shock at the sudden demise of one of Ghana's most gracious ministers.
Koku Anydoho, Prof Mills' Communication Director, told Joy FM Prof Mills was yet to come to terms with the Minister's death.
Koku said Mills described the late Baah-Wiredu as a kind and hardwoking individual who often stood above partisan leanings.
His passing, he said, was a great loss to the entire country.
