Ruud van Nistelrooy has been named as one of Guus Hiddink’s assistant coaches with the Holland national team, the Dutch football association said on Friday.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker, who scored 35 goals in 70 internationals for his country, will work alongside Danny Blind, who will take over from Hiddink in 2018 in a predetermined succession plan.
Holland also appointed Patrick Lodewijks as goalkeeping coach to replace Frans Hoek, who went to Manchester United with Louis van Gaal. Patrick Kluivert, who worked under Van Gaal as an assistant at the World Cup in Brazil, also departs.
Former internationals Pierre van Hooijdonk, Aron Winter, Sonny Silooy and Michael Reiziger have been appointed to various jobs with the national junior teams.
Hiddink is the most successful club coach ever within Holland, winning six league and four cup titles with PSV Eindhoven. He managed Holland from 1995-98, including a semi-final finish at the 1998 World Cup. He has also taken charge at Real Madrid and Chelsea, and led South Korea and Australia to best-ever performances in the 2002 and 2006 World Cups.
