Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has rubbished reports he is considering to step down as Black Stars coach over the appointment of an expatriate technical director to supervise his work.

The 54-year-old is expected back in the country by this weekend after an extensive break following Ghana’s disastrous campaign at the 2014 World Cup.

Appiah was unable to lead his side past the group stage of the tournament staged in Brazil much to the dismay of many Ghanaians.

The ex Black Stars captain is however on the verge of sealing a two-year extension to his expiring contract with the Ghana FA.

Some sections of the Ghanaian media however believe Appiah does not deserve the extension for his team’s failure at the World Cup.

Kwesi Appiah had already agreed in principle to sign a contract extension with the Ghana FA before taking his team to the World Cup in June.

Reports fast gaining currency however suggests the ex Asante Kotokoplayer will step down once the appointment of a technical director is announced to him as one of the conditions over his ‘revised’ contract when he arrives.

This arrangement, according to the report will be flatly rejected by the Ghanaian trainer and will result in his resignation if it is insisted upon.

But coach Kwesi Appiah speaking exclusively to GHANAsoccernet.com insists he has no intentions of quitting the Black Stars job.

“I am on holiday now and nothing has happened between the GFA and me so why will I resign?” he said in response to the fast circulating reports of his imminent resignation.

“These media reports are not correct as nothing will push me to quit.”

Appiah has been partly blamed for Ghana’s poor showing at the 2014 World Cup with critics suggesting he is not strong enough to deal with the various egos in the Black Stars team.

Serbian coach Ljubinko Drulovic has reportedly opened talks with the Ghana FA to become the new technical director.
