The Ghana Weightlifting Federation (GWF) has completed a three month training seminar for thirty professional coaches in Accra.

These coaches were drawn from the security services, tertiary institutions and individual clubs in the capital and as part of the federation’s upcoming competitive weightlifting league, these coaches will be managing individual clubs.

The training course which started on May 8 came to its climax over the weekend at the Media Center of the Accra Sports Stadium with participants awarded with certificates.

American expert in weightlifting, instructor Kyle Pearceson took these coaches through the various techniques of the discipline and believes Ghana could haul more medals in their future tournaments.

“I am really impressed with the attitude of the participants because I have gone round the world to train other athletes and I think Ghana’s potentials in the discipline are amazing.

“I am leaving on Monday but wished I stayed till Ghana qualifies for Rio 2016 but will still stay in touch with the Federation to assist anytime I am needed”. He added.

Meanwhile, the sports hall of the Federation is almost under completion and when it is completed it becomes the first discipline to own its hall in the history of Sports in Ghana.
