Mr Adams Imoro, General Director of Mums Love Rural Orphanage Foundation at Duayaw-Nkwanta in Brong-Ahafo Region has appealed to the general public to assist it in the proper upbringing and development of the children.
Mr Imoro told the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani on Thursday that because of the current economic hardships the Foundation found it difficult to provide the children with food and clothing.
He explained that the orphanage has 26 children made up of 17 boys and nine girls under the ages of zero to 16 years.
Mr Imoro said the Omanhene of Duayaw-Nkwanta, Nana Boakye Tromo III, who is a patron of the Orphanage, had given it 20 plots of land to construct a permanent accommodation for the children, adding that the tenancy agreement for current rented premises would expire in 2010.
He appealed to nongovernmental organisations and philanthropists to come to the aid of the Foundation.
The General Director explained that the foundation, which was established in 2006, had with the assistance of the Department of Social Welfare and Family Tribunals been taking care of children, especially from the three Northern Regions.
Mr Imoro said the Foundation was also supporting needy widows within Duayaw-Nkwanta and its environs.
He explained that the home had also been undertaken farming activities in the Northern Region to support the up-keep of the children and expressed regret that because of the flood and bushfires that engulfed the Region last year, the Foundation lost all its farm produce.
Mr Imoro hinted that the Foundation intended to extend its tentacles in identifying and providing skill training to rehabilitate ex-convicts, prostitutes and drug addicts to make them useful and self-dependent in society.
